CHALLENGING SELF – Looking for Chance v/s Making The Change

Challenging Self to me is pushing my own limits, doing something which I have never done before. Challenging Self is to participate or push self in a situation where one needs to prove capabilities & skills.

So when did you last challenge yourself? Or in fact ask this question to yourself: “When did I last challenge myself? When did I cross my own imaginary boundaries? When was the last time when I did more than what was required or demanded?” If you get the answers to these questions then you need to verify with few evidences in place. And the biggest can be to know that what transformative change you observed in self in last five years.

And if you don’t see any transformative change in self, don’t worry, what has happened has happened and you cannot ever change that BUT YOU CAN CHANGE YOUR FUTURE BY TAKING ACTION NOW.

As Jim Rohn said, “FOR THINGS TO CHANGE, YOU HAVE TO CHANGE, FOR THINGS TO GET BETTER, YOU HAVE TO GET BETTER.”

By challenging yourself regularly, you step outside your comfort zone and enter an undiscovered territory. On the contrary, if you never challenge yourself outside the familiar, you will never know what skills, resourcefulness, creativity and all-around awesomeness you are having in yourself.

Just imagine that by challenging self, you’ll live life more vibrantly, you’ll become an inspiration to the people around, you’ll re-define yourself and the most fantastic thing about this is that you will never regret about anything.

As we know that we humans are mere walking bundles of habits, good or bad. Our personality is shaped by our habits. Our success and our failures are defined by our habits.

A habit is a mental connection between an event and our response to that event. Repeating this connection time and again forms a habit and affects all subsequent decisions and actions. If repeated regularly, this connection becomes permanent unless we take conscious action to change it.

So if we need to change our habit i.e. an unconscious behavior, we need to consciously respond to the event thought or event in a way which is a shift from our normal regular pattern. For example if our unconscious behavior towards an alarm (event) in the morning is to hit the snooze button (unconscious response to the event) and if that has to be changed, then this pattern has to be modified by a conscious response such as getting out of bed and brushing your teeth and washing your face and then hitting snooze button.

It is proved that if we repeat some modified response to an event, consistently for 21 days, it becomes our unconscious behavior.

So let’s challenge self to break or make a habit. And we all have done this many times in past…though unknowingly.

For average students like me, we all have done a lot in last 21 days just before the exams. We never competed with anyone else in those days but only competitor to us in those days were we ourselves. The complete focus used to be on the achievement which was to clear the exams and we did it all the time. And I am sure each one of us has faced such situation in our lives when the circumstances demanded something extra ordinary from us and we did it and later we were surprised on our own selves.

YOU NEED TO REMEMBER THAT WHATEVER ENVIRONMENT, BEHAVIORS, SKILLS, VALUES & PURPOSE YOU HAVE HAD, HAS MADE YOU WHAT YOU ARE TODAY, BUT THAT DOES NOT GUARANTEE THAT THE SAME ENVIRONMENT, BEHAVIORS, SKILLS, VALUES, PURPOSE WILL HELP YOU TO REACH WHERE YOU WANT TO BE IN NEAR FUTURE.

One is either made by A CHANCE or by A CHANGE. One has to WAIT FOR HIS CHANCE but THE CHANGE WE WANT IS ALWAYS IN OUR HANDS.
